Shedding a light on Robert Williams

I do not usually stray towards the fine arts magazine section, but one time I did. And it was worth the trip. I came across Juxtapoz Art and Culture Magazine, a brainchild of painter Robert Williams. What struck me about the magazine was its "grafitti feel". Juxtapoz was a glossy magazine with a bad attitude. And I guess the same could be said about the work of Robert Williams in general. They are definitely respectable art, but definitely not lacking in terms of edginess.

Williams was a student of Los Angeles City College and got his degree Chouinard Art Institute. One of his more famous works was Appetite for destruction "depicting interlocking levels of human-to-robot rape and brutality. (www.wikipedia.com)" To give you an idea of how significant it was, the art work was featured in a Gun's and Roses album. Juxtapoz was founded in 1994 and since then it has been a benchmark for beautifully uncouth and powerful artwork.

To those who have not seen the magazine yet, take a mad dash to your nearest magazine stand. I promise you Juxtapoz will be worth a browse.
